Annual Strategic Meeting, Saturday, September 12, 2020 11:00 a.m.
The annual Strategic Meeting will be presented virtually this year through the Zoom platform. An invitation to membership will go out via email to attend. We will set up a live stream through YouTube which will also create a link to view at a later time if members are not available to watch live.

The meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. MST, on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

All Alcor staff and Board of Directors will be present during the meeting and guests will be able to send in questions to have answered by our panel.

Watch for a special email announcement the first week in September with a meeting agenda.
Lynn Smith, CPA joins Alcor Life Extension Foundation as Controller
Lynn Smith, CPA
With more than 20 years of financial experience in the health care industry and with non-profit organizations, Lynn joined the Alcor team in August 2020. As the Controller, she is responsible for the financial operations of the organization where she manages the daily accounting and monthly financial reporting as well as the annual budget and year-end audit. She ensures compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.

Before coming to Alcor, Lynn served as the Controller at Florence Crittenton Services of Arizona and the Assistant Controller at Mountain Park Health Center. She completed her M.S. degree in Accounting at Keller Graduate School of Management in February 2018, and she previously attended the University of Wisconsin where she received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Nursing and Business, respectively. When not at work, Lynn enjoys spending time with her family and activities like hiking and sporting events.
Alcor Supports Medical Researchers
 
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are critical tools in the medical industry to protect the welfare of frontline healthcare professionals. The role of PPE has recently been magnified by the global health pandemic, and use of PPE by the general public has skyrocketed.
 
The University of Arizona (UofA) College of Medicine is performing research on the fitment, efficacy, and efficiency of common PPE, specifically respirators that are used in hospitals and other situations where people may be exposed to infectious or otherwise hazardous contaminants.  Researchers from UofA College of Medicine contacted Alcor during the global PPE supply shortages and requested equipment to test in their research. Fortunately, Alcor was equipped with a surplus of PPE and provided the researchers with full-face and half-face respirators, filters, and an Alcor-designed filter adapter which enables cross-compatibility with third-party respirator filters. 
 
We anticipate seeing the results of their study in the coming months. Alcor thanks the University of Arizona College of Medicine for their partnership and allowing us the opportunity to facilitate this important research.

Aligning with Healthcare Standards
 
As your Medical Response Director, I am very excited to announce a big advancement in how we handle Protected Health Information (PHI). To increase the professionalism of Alcor’s published cryopreservation cases, and to bring these publications more in line with standards in the healthcare industry, Alcor will no longer include patient names in Alcor’s technical case documentation. Alcor will continue to include the patient’s A-number in technical case documentation. Furthermore, Alcor will release A-numbers only to individuals who have been legally designated to receive a patient’s PHI. An explanation of the thought process that went into this advancement will be presented in Cryonics, so keep an eye out for that!
